How does a spermogram work?

1 min read

A spermogram is divided into two stages: collection and analysis of the ejaculate.

Semen collection: Semen can be collected by masturbation in a sterile container supplied by the laboratory. It is also possible to collect semen by epididymal collection, a more invasive technique used in cases of absent or retrograde ejaculation. There are a few hygienic precautions to be observed, and all ejaculate must be placed in the jar. Otherwise, you'll have to make a note of it on the sheet, and the analysis may be compromised.

Most laboratories prefer to collect sperm directly on their premises, in order to guarantee the quality of the semen between collection and analysis. They provide a special room for this purpose: the patient must masturbate to collect the sperm in a vial, which is then analyzed on the spot or sent rapidly to a competent laboratory.

Once the collection is complete, all you have to do is leave.

If you prefer to take the sample at home, negotiate with your laboratory the conditions that allow you to do so.
